8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
The Northboro Junior Woman’s Club held its 10th “Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Conference” on Saturday, March 25th. This event gives middle school girls the opportunity to explore careers in science and math. After an opening presentation, the girls attended four 40 minute interactive hands-on career workshops. Presenters represent fields such as Forensic Chemistry, Dentistry, Architecture, DNA Extraction, Engineering, Medical, and Veterinary Medicine. The presenters explain what they do in their occupation, share different tips on courses of study & ways to train for their profession, and provide hands-on exploration/activities.
A luncheon followed the workshops and offered an opportunity for the students and presenters to continue discussions in a more informal setting.
Registration forms are made available from the school or by clicking here. Enrollment is limited to the first 180 girls. Please note that choice of the workshops is based on a first come first serve basis. This program has historically been very popular and always fills to capacity.
