What We Do
The GFWC Northboro Junior Woman's Club (NJWC) works under the six program areas of Arts, Conservation, Education, Home Life, International Outreach and Public Issues or anywhere we see a need. Some of our community projects include Women In Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM), Styrofoam Recycling, and Pinwheels for Prevention. Locally, we support the Northboro Library, the Northboro Food Pantry, Community Meals, the Splash Pad and several local non-profits. Internationally we support UNICEF, Heifer International, and Operation Smile. Recently we held a night at the Boston Celtics to raise funds for the Shot at Life immunization program; over $1,500 was raised for this cause.
NJWC’s polystyrene (PS6) recycling project won first place in the 2014 GFWC Massachusetts Community Improvement Program Contest and was awarded second place in the GFWC National Community Improvement Program Contest. Funds received from these awards were used to fund "Green Grants" for Northboro schools.
Community Meal is held every Wednesday night at 6:00 at Northboro's Trinity Church. All are welcome for food and fellowship. Meals are prepared each week by different Northborough churches and organizations; NJWC participates four times a year.
Twice a year we sponsor a Repair Cafe, where citizens can bring their broken electronics or any item, including clothing, that needs mending, and our volunteers will repair it free of charge.
Visit the Peace Pole at the Assabet Park, which was donated by NJWC. This Peace Pole was erected in Assabet Park in 2010 by the GFWC Northboro Junior Woman's Club, Northboro Parks and Recreation and the Northboro Highway Department.
The NJWC Annual Harvest Craft Fair (our largest fundraiser) is run completely by volunteers. Our Club has over 30 years of experience and we receive positive feedback from numerous crafters and patrons regarding how well-run our craft fair is. Proceeds are used to support the work of NJWC throughout the year. We also proudly donate a portion to benefit local community programs.
Every year at the Northboro Town Applefest Celebration the NJWC hosts the Apple Pie Cafe.
